Our Team

All the naturopathic doctors at the Centre for Natural Medicine are licensed, board certified and registered in Manitoba.  All doctors are members of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the
Manitoba Naturopathic Association.

Dr. Gordon Sims, ND, L.Ac

Dr. Sims graduated from a four year Doctoral program at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland Oregon. In addition to the Naturopathic program, Dr. Sims obtained a Masters in Oriental Medicine (board certified acupuncturist and herbalist NCCAOM).

The faculty of medicine at the University of Manitoba has asked Dr. Sims to participate in lectures to educate medical students about naturopathic and chinese medicine.

Dr. Sims is a frequent lecturer (please see up and coming events) and past president of the Manitoba Naturopathic Association. In addition, Dr. Sims enjoys writing on relevant medical issues. Please look in your local community newspaper for the next article.

Prior to his medical training, Dr. Sims obtained his B.Sc. from the faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba (1989, Distinction). Dr. Sims worked in the field of biomedical engineering obtaining a patent for an artificial knee prosthesis.

Dr. Sims examines each condition from both a Naturopathic and Classical Chinese medical perspective. Both systems of medicine are used to treat disease. The Naturopathic tools include botanical medicine, homeopathy, and nutritional medicine. The Classical Chinese Medicine tools include Acupuncture, and Chinese Herbal Therapy.

Dr. Sims is trained to treat a wide variety of conditions including chronic diseases. Dr. Sims is board certified and registered in Manitoba.

Dr. Suzanne Danner, ND

Dr. Danner holds a Doctoral Degree of Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from the four-year program, Dr. Danner completed a one-year residency. Prior to her medical training, Dr. Danner obtained her B.Sc. in Nutrition from the Faculty of Human Ecology at the University of Manitoba (1990).

Dr. Danner uses the classical tools of Naturopathic medicine to treat disease. At the cornerstone of her approach is clinical nutrition. She has a special interest in women's health issues and pediatric care. Dr. Danner is a frequent lecturer and contributer to various magazines (Winnipeg Women's Magazine) and newletters. She is the past president of the Manitoba Naturopathic Association (2002-2004), She shares her life and her practice with her husband Dr. Gordon Sims, and their two small children, Avery and Caitlyn. Dr. Danner is board certified and registered in Manitoba.

Dr. Dean Schrader, ND

Dr. Dean Schrader, ND received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Winnipeg. He obtained his Doctorate with Academic Honors from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland Oregon. Dr. Schrader has received advanced training in obstetrics (naturopathic midwifery), and homeopathy. He is trained to treat a wide variety of conditions including chronic disease, using various modalities, such as clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, Intravenous (IV) Therapy, and Bowen Therapy.

Dr. Schrader serves the Manitoba Naturopathic Association as a committee member and was previously an MNA board member. As part of the mandate of the Centre for Natural Medicine, Dr. Schrader writes quarterly for Consumers Health Organization of Manitoba publication.

Dr. Schrader is a professor of Clinical Nutrition and has taught at the Manitoba College of Homeopathic Medicine. Dr. Schrader is board certified and registered in Manitoba.

Dr. Andrew Bryk

Dr. Andrew Bryk

Dr. Andrew Bryk will be joining the Centre for Natural Medicine mid-July 2009.


Dr. Bryk, ND received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba.  He graduated from the 4-year program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto Ontario.  During his 12-month internship he participated on the Sports Medicine specialty shift where he received additional training in pain management and trigger point therapy.   He is also a certified Wilson Temperature Syndrome practitioner.
 
With an emphasis on disease prevention and health promotion, he works with his patients to help them become an active participant in the management of their own health.  He uses an eclectic approach to health incorporating a variety of modalities including acupuncture, clinical nutrition, counseling, botanical medicine,  hydrotherapy to best match the treatment to the patients needs.  He has interest in sports medicine and digestive issues but is trained to treat a wide variety of medical conditions. 


 


Leyla Hassan, B.RS,

Leyla Hassan, B.RS, Diploma in Personal Training (UK), Personal Training Specialist (Canada)

Leyla has an undergraduate degree in Recreational Studies from the University of Manitoba and has a Personal Training Diploma from Lifetime Health & Fitness in Edinburgh, Scotland. Leyla is also registered with the Registry of Exercise Professionals (UK) and Can-Fit-Pro, Canada.  Leyla has been with the Centre for Natural Medicine since 1999 in various capacities and is currently our Fitness Advisor and also one of our certified FirstLine Therapy Lifestyle Educators.


Flori Ens, RN,BN

Flori is currently on a leave of absence. 

Flori Ens is a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She has over 20 years of experience which includes hospital, community health nursing and teaching nursing with a focus on maternal/child at the University of Manitoba. Her interests have included studying at the graduate level and completing course work in Parish Nursing. Her desire to approach health holistically has recently taken her to The Centre for Natural Medicine.

She values working with clients in the area of diet and nutrition and appreciates the various approaches to achieving a healthy lifestyle.  More recently she has been certified as a Lifestyle Educator for First Line Therapy(FLT).  The First Line Therapy program has been developed through the most current scientific research and concepts that are proven in controlled studies.  As a Lifestyle Educator her role is to assist patients in making choices that will enhance their health and prevent disease.  FLT is based on scientific research demonstrating that many of the chronic diseases associated with aging can be prevented and/or treated by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
