What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective method for cleansing the colon of waste material by repeated, gentle flushing with water. During the 45 minute treatment, purified, temperature, and pressure regulated water gently flows in and out of the colon. The water cleanses the colon of harmful bacteria, parasites, and toxins/waste products. The gentle fill-release cycles stimulates peristalsis (wave-like contractions) to promote healthy bowel function.

What is the Purpose of Getting a Colonic?

The colon, or large intestine, is the end elimination organ of the digestive tract. It is approximately 3 to 5 feet long, and 2 and ½ inches in diameter. The role of the large intestine is water absorption, storage and elimination of waste, and the synthesis of nutrients by the friendly bacteria.

The integrity of the colon is vital to health because it is one of the primary organs of detoxification, and elimination.  People should have between 1-3 bowel movements per day to promote healthy elimination.  When the bowels are stagnant, wastes/toxins can be re-absorbed into the bloodstream making us feel ill, tired, and weak.

Historical Overview

The practice of Colon Hydrotherapy in its most ancient form was used by the Egyptians in the 14th c. B.C. In the 17th c. Parisians used enemas or ‘internal cleansing’ as common medical practice. This era was often referred to as the “age of the enema”.  By the late 19th c. the enema gave way to colon hydrotherapy equipment.

In 1917 Dr. Kellogg documented the treatment of  gastrointestinal disease in the Journal of American Medicine. He stated that in over 40,000 cases, he had used surgery in only 20 cases. The rest were helped as a result of cleansing the bowels, diet, and exercise.

While cleansing was a valued therapy of the past, it was replaced with modern medical technology that offered instant relief for body ailments.  This resulted in purification and prevention techniques being forgotten.  Recently there has been renewed interest in using natural cleansing for healing the body.
